Growing Beyond Canadian Roots

Over one half of DONATION's users are from the U.S.A. Since 2001, DONATION has included full support for U.S. receipting requirements. This includes printing the following sentence on all receipts: "Pursuant to Internal Revenue Code requirements for substantiation of charitable contributions, no goods or services were provided in return for the Tax Deductible contributions". It's one of the ways our product has grown beyond its Canadian roots to meet the needs of users from other countries.

Helpful Hints

U.S. users should be aware of the following:

• In the U.S., donors are not required by the IRS to submit receipts for individual donations of less than $250. DONATION's Receipt -> Filtered Donors menu option lets you generate receipts only for amounts over a given dollar figure.
• To get the special receipt format for the U.S., specify that you are a U.S. organization in the Maintenance -> Receipt Options menu option. (This should already be the default when you start the program.)
• You can specify whether a donation is a gift in kind, by selecting the "Gift in Kind" value on the Check # / Paid By list for the donation.
• You can also generate the receipts in your own desired format, using the mail merge receipts options in the program.
• If you wish to have your organization's Tax ID / EIN on the receipts, fill in the Charitable Number or Tax ID / EIN field on the Maintenance -> Organization Info window.
