Network Versions of DONATION are Now Available!
Starting in version 3.04 (released in January, 2008), there are
now two main varieties of DONATION:
- The version that has always been available, now called
the normal or Local Database version. This installs onto one
computer, has the database on that computer, and no other
installation of DONATION can access the same database (unless the
database file is copied to the other computer).
- The Network Version (divided into the Network
Server and Network Client versions). The Network Server version
installs onto one computer on your network, and has the database
on that computer. You can then install the Network Client version
on additional computers on your network, and they can access the
same database that is on the computer that the Network
Server version is installed on.
Most users will use the normal Local Database version, whether
or not they have a network, because for most users, only one
person really needs access to DONATION. Or, they may want to
have DONATION installed on both a computer in the organization's
office, and a computer at their home. The Network versions do not
help with that, though it can be done by installing two copies of
the normal Local Database version, and copying the database file
back and forth between those computers.
However, if you have a network in your organization, and more
than one user in your organization wants to be able to access
the same DONATION database, do select the Network versions.
Install the Network Server version on the main user's computer,
and the Network Client version on any additional users' computers.
Pricing for the Network version is by the number of simultaneous
users. (This is unlike the Local Database version, where the pricing
is by the number of donors that you have. The Network versions
always allow for an unlimited number of donors.)
The pricing is never dependent on the number of computers that
you install DONATION on, whether you are using the Network versions,
or the Local Database version.
If you are using the Network version, and are satisfied to
have only one user ever using DONATION
at one time, just purchase the One Simultaneous User license. If
you want two or even three users to be able to run DONATION
simultaneously (i.e. at the same time), purchase the Two or Three
Simultaneous User license.
License Keys: If you use the Network versions, the same
license key will be applied to all installed copies of DONATION
on your network.
Upgrading to the Network version: If you want to upgrade
a Local Database version to a Network version, you merely need to
pay any difference between the Full License fee that you have
already paid for your Local Database version, and the Full License
fee for the number of simultaneous users that you want of the
Network version. Then, request a new License Key that will
authorize you to use the Network version, with the desired number
of simultaneous users, by using the Help -> Request or Install
License Key menu option, and the "Request License Key for
your Organization" button on the window that comes up.
